Abstract

Introduction: Inflammation of the plantar fascia, called fasciitis, is the most common cause of heel pain in adulthood, with an incidence of 10% in this population, accounting for approximately 1 million annual appointments. Conservative treatment has proven successful in 90% of cases and in this context, the tape has been the subject of study as it provides mechanical support without restricting movement. Objective: To review the results of using this therapeutic modality in the treatment of plantar fasciitis in studies published in 2020 to 2024. Methods: This is a virtual bibliographic survey of randomized and/or controlled clinical trials published in digital journals between the years 2019 to 2023, in the PubMed, PEDro, BVS and ScienceDirect databases. Results: All analyzed studies indicated statistically significant improvements in their pain and strength scores that the use of taping associated with another physiotherapeutic technique has a superior result when compared to its isolated use. In terms of foot function, improvement was only observed in individuals who received the treatment combined with other physical therapy and with the application of a rigid bandage. Conclusion: The use of taping in the treatment of plantar fasciitis showed improvement in pain in all selected studies, especially in the acute phase of the condition. In relation to foot function, it was seen that this technique was effective when associated with the application of rigid bandaging.
